Week 3: 8/29-9/8

We had a great week in first grade! Our class earned a Pajama & Movie Party. We read the book Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers and watched the movie as a class! The entire class voted and decided our next goal to earn will be a class game of Gaga! We earned this party in 10 days, so I can’t wait to see how quick we will earn this next party!

Only 6 parents have signed up for SeeSaw! Please download the app and sign up so you can view your child’s portfolio! I want to use this app as a form of communication to parents.

Reading: This week we learned how to access Raz-Kids and Spelling City. We started our word sorts and learning how to navigate Literacy Studio. We practiced finding “just right” books and discussed the attributes of being a “strong reader.” Next week, we will introduce the word schema and how it helps us become better readers.

Math: We finished Chapter 1 in Math. A copy of the assessments will come home next week. We are starting Chapter 2: Number Bonds on Monday.

Writing: We officially started our first unit: We Make Books. This week we talked about being “brave spellers” and how writers tell stories across pages. Next week, we will continue to add exciting features to our books. We love being authors and illustrators!

Social Studies: We are continuing the discussion of being a community member outside of Meadowbrook and our families.

Next Week:

Book Fair is Wednesday 9/13-Friday 9/15! We will go as a class on Wednesday afternoon. Lunch will be eaten in the classroom, so please DO NOT pack peanuts/tree nuts in your child’s lunch those days. I will send home a reminder sheet next week as well.

Best, Miss Weiner
